Adventure sports trainer and endurance athlete Noel Hanna has embarked on a 24-month world record challenge - to scale the world`s highest mountains in each continent, followed by the fastest descent to sea level from each peak. Noel (above) from Dromara, Co Down, began the challenge in January 2005, with the successful summit of Aconcagua in Argentina and descent to sea level in Chile in 28hrs, 23m. In May 2006, the 38-year-old summited Everest and completed the descent to sea level - the Bay of Bengal - in 16 days, 23 hours and 45 minutes. Noel uses only human-powered surface based transport during these descents, including bikes, kayaks or skis.

The project is being undertaken in accordance with the strict requirements of the Guinness Book of Records, with independent monitoring and verification of each ascent and descent.
