Reuters report that 76-year-old Min Bahadur Sherchan from Nepal plans to climb Everest aided by 12 Nepali sherpas before returning to a senior home he wants to open after summit.

Sherchan reportedly wants to inspire young folks to climb. While it`s unclear what his previous climbing experience is; the Nepali will be in close race with Japanese Yuichiro Miura who became record holder as the oldest Everest summiteer in 2003 at the age of 70 and plans to repeat the ascent in 2008; at age 75.

Miura has climbed extensively and trains rigorously for his next attempt.

Everest skier Yuichiro Miura, 74, became record holder as the oldest Everest summiteer in 2003 at the age of 70 and plans to repeat the ascent in 2008; at age 75. Going for the north side next, Miura said, “I would like to join the Chinese team attempting to carry the Olympic torch up to the summit. However, if that is not possible I will go by myself and carry my own torch.” Image of Miura at Shishapangma TBC 5180m, April 15 last year, courtesy of the expedition.
