Natalia Smirnova: Today we had an important day - climbing the mount of La Malinche 4,450 m, our first acclimatization exit. La Malinche like all the mountains in the vicinity of Orizaba is a former volcano. During the last eruption, many years ago, its crater collapsed and you can see only a part of its former splendor.

The way to the top of La Malinche passes first through the pine forest, and then along the mountain path through the stones. In addition to Israel and Veronica, our guides, from the refuge at 3,100 to the very top, we were accompanied by local - a group of yard dogs. They ran all the way with us and at 4450 m received a well-deserved reward - for a piece of cheese.

The weather was good, the sun, almost without a wind. From the top, Orizaba was seen with a white hat on top and an inseparable pair - the volcanoes Popocatepetl and Istaksihuatl.

Tomorrow we leave for the shelter on the slopes of Orizaba.
