Today at 1 p.m. Chilean time, five climbers 7 Summits Club reached the top of the highest volcano of the world Ojos day Salado. The ascent was a very, very hard. There was a strong wind, despite the good weather forecast. Therefore, we have two members out of the climb. But five of us overpowered it. Now, we all went down to the camp Atacama. Tomorrow we will wrap up camp and leave. Bye everyone!

Our guide Denis Savelyev sent an information from Chile, from the town of Copiapo. Yesterday, he met a group of the 7 Summits-Club (6 members) that arrived with transfers from Moscow. On the way, nothing is lost, no one got lost. Denis already purchased products, rented a car. Now together, they go in the direction of Laguna Verde. Renowned mountaineer Olga Rumyantseva will become the first woman to solo-ascend the Volcanic Seven Summits, the seven highest volcanoes across the continents, within one year.

Giluwe (Papua New Guinea), Damavand (Iran), Elbrus (Russia), Pico de Orizaba (Mexico) and Ojos del Salado (Chile/Argentina). Summiting these volcanoes is considered one of the toughest mountaineering challenges in the world, and the fact that Olga will be the first in history to ascend them alone in less than 12 months merely adds to the challenge.

Although Olga is going to set a record, the expedition is more about testing the spirit and personal achievement. Olga commented: "This has been my dream for a long time. I'm an adventurer; I like to explore and do things that have never been done before. The difficulty of this challenge makes it even more interesting for me! The Kaspersky 7 Volcanoes Expedition started on 11 January 2013 with the ascent of the highest volcano in Antarctica: Mount Sidley with a summit elevation of 4,181-4,285 meters (13,717-14,058 ft.). It is a massive, mainly snow-covered shield volcano which is the highest and most imposing of the five volcanic mountains that comprise the Executive Committee Range of Marie Byrd Land .

The Kaspersky 7 Volcanoes Expedition is a new step for the brand in collaborating with the world's highly recognised explorers. At the beginning of 2012, with the support of Kaspersky Lab, British explorer Felicity Aston became the first woman in history to cross Antarctica alone, having set a new world record. Olga Rumyantseva was born in the city of Tver, Russia. From an early age she had a keen interest in mountain trekking and mountaineering. (1) Alexander Abramov with four comrades goes by ski to the South Pole - the program "Last Degree".

(2) According to the plan 10th of January, Vyacheslav Adrov and Vitali Simonovich  start for the program climbing the highest volcano in Antarctica Mount Sidley.

(3) Large group (12 people) began its long journey to the summit of Aconcagua. Guides our Club: Dmitry Ermakov and Denis Saveliev.

(4) Another large group (10 people, guide Artem Rostovtsev) began the program Climb of Kilimanjaro. They will also visit a safari and Zanzibar.

(5) Another large group (12 people + 1 guide) started with a program of  the climb of Kilimanjaro one day earlier, on January 2. This is - a joint project of the Donetsk Vertical-Tour and 7 Summits Club. Most of the participants are from teh city Donetsk, as well as guide Vyacheslav Vyblov.

(13) On January 3th  a group of our Club came in Morocco. The program includes: -climbing the highest peak in North Africa -MountToubkal and excursions to historical places.

(14) Finally, three days later, on January 9th, another group of 7 Summits Club will start to Chile. Program: Climbing the highest volcano of the World Ojos del Salado,  and after that  make Patagonia cruises and tour wineries in Chile.

Total - 14 teams for the New Year and the first half of January. Our personal best record.

Guide of the 7 Summits Club Denis Saveliev reported. We have two good news from December 14. First: Vyacheslav Adrov set a new record Russia for climbing with a car to maximum height. He climbed with a car on the slopes of Ojos del Salado at the altitude of 5940 meters. And the second news, more modest. Yesterday our group went for acclimatization. But later, we decided that we will not go down and continued climb the slope of the volcano Ojos del Salado. We almost did not notice that appeared on the top. Ojos del Salado - the most important point in the program of 7 Volcanoes! Because it the highest volcano of the world. It situated on the border of Atacama desert, one of the driest and most unusual places on a planet. The head of expedition - a guide of 7 Summit Club master of sports on mountaineering Denis Savelyev. He came for one day earlier, and today, on 5th of December, he has met all group in city airport of Santiago, republic Chile capital. Today the group has left on the country north, to a mountain foot. The first overnight is in a city of Valesitos.

Luba Ivanova has returned to office work, after several weeks in South America. Now she should provide several reports on its work with groups of 7 Summits Club. We offer you the first of them - about the ascent of the highest volcano on our planet mountain Ojos del Salado in Chile. This mountain is located practically in the Atacama Desert, one of the driest places on Earth. Reaching the peak was more difficult than anticipated because of strong winds and high altitude influence.

Hello from Chile! We have everything in order. Yesterday, February 9, two members of the expedition reached the summit of the highest volcano in the world, Ojos del Salado. This Alexander Morozov and Alexei Kabanov, who сlimbed with a local guide Mario. Weather conditions were extremely unfavorable - wind up to 90 km / h, temperature - 20 ˚. The remaining members of the group stopped at around 6300 meters. Everybody is happy. We go now by jeeps in Copiapo. We all delighted with fantastic landscapes of the Atacama Desert. Research and sport expedition “Earth’s Ring of Fire”, aimed at traveling around the globe and following our planet’s volcanic belt, starts in February 2011. The expedition will visit 19 countries: Russia, United States of America, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Argentina, New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, Philippines and Japan.

 The expedition, aimed at covering over 70 000 kilometers at 5 continents, will have 7 stages, during which participants will permanently travel along the Pacific Ring of Fire – a territory, famous for hosting 75% of Earth’s volcanoes and 90% earthquakes.

 Before the start expedition members plant to climb Elbrus and Kazbek peaks, located in Caucasian mountains, to get better acclimatization.

The program "Seven Volcanoes" is relatively young. American Amar Amdalkar posted great material about it on the pages of his excellent site skimountaineer.com. We, in the 7 Summits Club, rather uncritically copied the list and took it for granted. However, refinement began to appear. The first was Mount Giluve in Papua, as the highest volcano in Australia. And now it appeared quite clear that the highest volcano in Asia is in China, in the mountains of Kun-Lun. Ka-er-daxi is 5808 meters high.

Kunlun Volcano is located in Tibet. The volcanic group contains 70 pyroclastic cones and basaltic lava flows. Ashi Shan volcano in the western end of the group is the youngest volcano in China (also known as Ka-er-daxi or Vulkan).

1951 Eruption

The eruption of Kunlun in 1951 was the most recent eruption in China. It was a central vent explosive eruption witnessed by road building workers.

The Kunlun Shan is a major mountain system of Asia, situated in China about halfway between the Himalayas and Tian Shan. It stretches one thousand miles, its snow-and-glacier-clad peaks rising abruptly along the north edge of the vast dry Tibetan plains.

The Kunlun Shan becomes progressively more narrow from east to west, and the narrow western section, just east of the Pamirs, is where the highest peaks are found, towering seventy five miles south of Kashi, the largest city in western Xinjiang Province, China. Near the center of the Kunlun Shan, a 500-mile northern branch called the Altun Tagh splits from the main range and extends northeast.

This peak is to the best of my knowledge, unclimbed. If it is and the Xinjiang Mountaineering Association decides to follow the rules strictly, the peak fee will be 4400-10255$US! The peak is very small compared to its neighbors and you may be lucky and not charged at all for climbing it. Sometimes you can climb peaks below 6000m with no charge.
