At the end of October 2013, an ascent of the western summit of the "two-peaked mountain" was made by experienced mountain climbers: Karina Mezova, who has climbed to the summit of Mount Elbrus 130 times, and Abdul-Khalim Elmezov, President of the Climbing Federation of the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria. Both climbers are close friends of the 7 Summits Club, both are Everest summiters.

With the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi just round the corner, the Olympic Flame has been lit at the summit of the highest point in Europe, Mount Elbrus, which lies in the Greater Caucasus mountain range.

During the relay, the longest in Olympic history, the Olympic torch has been seen at the International Space Station, in outer space, on the bottom of Lake Baikal, at the main Buddhist temple and monastery in the Republic of Buryatia, on top of Avachinsky volcano on the Kamchatka Peninsula, and at the North Pole.

A team of five experienced mountaineers has also reached the summit of Mount Elbrus with the Olympic Flame in a special lantern, the Torch Relay Committee revealed on Saturday.

Although commonly known as a mountain, Mount Elbrus is in fact a layered volcano, which last erupted about 2,000 years ago. It has long been a challenge for climbers from across the world, with the first documented ascent of the eastern summit in 1829. The slightly higher western peak was first conquered in 1874.

The plan to take the Olympic Flame to the western peak of Elbrus, at an altitude of 5,642 meters above sea level, was developed separately from the main Olympic Torch Relay route to have a chance to choose the best possible weather conditions for the climb.

At the end of October 2013, a Russian team of mountain climbers made an ascent of the western summit of Elbrus. One of the mountaineers, Karina Mezova, has climbed to the summit of Elbrus 130 times; the other, the president of the Climbing Federation of the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, Abdul-Khalim Elmezov, has climbed Elbrus more than 220 times.

A total of 14,000 torch bearers have taken part in the 2014 Olympic Torch Relay, with the oldest participant aged 101. Meanwhile, the average pace of the Olympic Torch Relay is 534 kilometers a day, with a variety of means of transportation available to ship it, including the traditional Russian three-horse sled, the troika, dog sled and reindeer sled, a hot air balloon, an amphibious motorboat, a medieval “ladya” Russian sailboat, a motorbike, a water scooter, a wakeboard, a ski bike, a snowmobile, as well as a snow-and-swamp buggy, just to name a few.

The 2014 Olympic Torch Relay has been hosted by 135 cities located in all of Russia’s 83 federal subjects. The longest nonstop leg of the relay spanned 2,055 kilometers, between the cities of Norilsk and Yakutsk in the Russian Far East.

In April 2013 at the 11th Congress of the Ukrainian Geographical Society Igor Pochvalin was elected an Honorary Member. He also became a member of the Presidium of the Crimean branch of the Society. In May, Igor went with the Club 7 summits on Jebel Toubkal, in August, he presented his new book, this time the book of poetry named «Free translation from Farsi». At the same time Igor remains, first of all, professional, surgeon-oncologist of highest qualification....

Now we have a rest at lake Laguna Verde, where we bathe first in the hot springs, then immediately in cold water of the lake. Around there is an extraordinary beauty. Mountain peaks covered with snow, green lake. In general, all very cool. Yesterday we went to the summit of Mount San Francisco, 6018 meters high. Hi! This is Alexandra Sak from Kilimanjaro. Today morning at seven, six of the eight our climbers were on the top of Uhuru. Although the mountain was not good with the weather today. First, a strong wind in the morning, then we walked as hedgehogs in a fog, and then went to grad. Now we are already in Horombo, 3700. And here, too, there is hail. So Kilimanjaro is sad. Jubilee expedition dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the 7 Summits Club President Alex Abramov started yet the end of last year. January, 31th a guide 7 Summits Club Sergei Larin arrived in Chile. He started preparing food and other things needed for the expedition. Alexander Abramov arrived in Chile on January, 2th and also was involved in preparations for the arrival of the main group. Today, the 3rd of January in Chile begin to arrive all other members of the expedition. Who is from where. Who from Moscow, who from Samara, who from Irkutsk, who from Khanty-Mansiysk, who from Antarctica after climbing Vinson. Well, now a few words about the ascent ofOjos del Salado.... It's time ...

No special difficulties, most importantly, as always - be lucky with the weather. Well, no need to rush - 7000 meters yet – a need of acclimatization has not been canceled ...

I had hoped to acclimatize on Orizaba, but between the two mountains I got 14 days. A lot, too many. But I could not resist and tried to start climb on top of Ojos immediately after arrival. I had a luck, but... not right!

We had a picnic with a guide Mario first right into the crater, well then moved to the top, in total spending on the summit more than three hours. Good weather and lack of wind contributed to this. But in the end, the desire to go down to the restaurant and wash out to sea and had overpowered ...

Oh yes, our car was not able to climb up to 5800 meters, so we lugged all by yourself from the 5200 and back. From Copiapo to Copiapo we spent 6 days for the ascent ...

Along the way I lost the camera. Then it was found, but returned me only flash card with photos. Sorry for the camera, which was on Everest, South Pole, and many other points ...

But I'm happy, now I have something to show you ..

I was with Israel Breton, who of his 37 years he goes to Orizaba 18 years .. What can I say .. For most physically fit people the ascent under such leadership will not be difficult .. We did 4.5 hours to the top and with the first rays of the sun, I took out the camera.

Do not miss this moment when you could see a huge shadow of the mountain on top of which you are pleased to stand .. For some reason I always do not wish to go from the top … first long climb, climb, and then finish ! Striking feeling .. such pacification and then .. Especially on Everest struck it and I remember - all fussed with some flags, photographed "in memory " , although most in this situation rarely generally get at least some good shots , and I just stood there and watched the sunrise over the Earth, trying to understand where I remember what I saw .. And it was so nice and peaceful ..

A part of workers, guides and friends of the Seven Summits Club held in a festive evening on December 24 at the restaurant Chalet (Kant). It was dedicated to celebrating the New Year. Results of the outgoing year were found to be successful, it was an eventful year and informative.

The main hero of the year was Olga Rumyantseva, she made the 7 Volcanoes Program solo, on one year and without interrupting the production process. Alexander Abramov counted his 19 climbed summits. Wow! A good year - we decided to make it a tradition . That is, in the future to keep the pace and scope. Health to all ! Peace and prosperity !

In December of this year, two of our climber of 7 Summits Club completed the program Seven Volcanoes. First is Olga Rumyantseva successfully finished a unique program "Seven volcanoes " for one year and alone (solo). Thanks to Kaspersky!

And so, we got a message that Vitaly Simonovic climbed theOjos del Salado. He performed this program climbing the highest volcanoes of all continents. Vitaly sent a massage direct from the summit of Orizaba

December 1 Vitaly flew to Mexico, where the goal of his ascent will be the highest volcano in North America -Mount Orizaba. If everything will be normal, immediately after the descent, he crashes in Chile, where is his final object of Seven Volcanoes. This is the highest of all the volcanoes in the world Ojos del Salado.

The first of volcanoes for Simonovich was Kilimanjaro in 2011. There is a chance that Vitaly will be the fastest man in the world who have completed the program Seven Volcanoes . And, because not so long ago Vitaly Simonovicр has successfully completed the 7 Summits in two versions : with Carstens Pyramid and Kosciuszko, he could be the fastest on the sum of two programs: the 7 Summits and 7 Volcanoes .
