Indonesia. Papua. Expedition Carstensz-2018.

 After a sudden successful summit the day before yesterday, we can only ask the weather to give a second chance - the opportunity to fly early from the base camp down to Timika. Didn't happen yesterday. We waited walking  to the next valley and rest.

Today, all the stars have developed in our favor, even the helicopter pilot took a chance and got a group of turns between the clouds. We were worried, but in the end we are all at the bottom level.

And now we are preparing to celebrate the climb and congratulate new sevensummiters.

Congratulations with Seven Summits!

Hello dears! This is a news online by guide Boris Egorov from the expedition to Carstensz Pyramid. This morning  there was a gorgeous weather and a helicopter promptly brought the whole group back to civilization. But we did not stay in Timika for long, had only to freshen up and immediately went to the capital of the island - Jayapura.  And then we met the ocean, as well as delicious fresh fish and souvenirs. And in the evening we gave the team members medals for climbing the summit of Carstensz Pyramid!

There is the first summit of the season! On Carstensz Pyramid! We just got information  from Timika that one of our group members, Ñurt Myers, has climbed to the top of Carstensz.  According to the plan he was going to go through the jungle and only under in the base camp to meet with our main group. So Ñurt flew to Timika a few days ago. But  he failed to start  the trek  - the area was closed because of the guerrillas.

 Together with our local partners Ñurt changed the program and flew to the base camp by helicopter. And already our friend successfully climbed to the top of Carstensz Pyramid, yesterday! Congratulations!!!

Vladimir Kotlyar, a guide of the 7 Summits Club talks about the recent visit to the island of Papua.

 Team of the 7 Summits Club, consisting of Irina Zisman, Michael Kornev, Gregory Sadetsky and Vladimir Kotlyar visited several places in Western part of the island of Papua New Guinea from 1 to 11 March and climbed the most mysterious and difficult of the 7 summits - the great Pyramid of Carstensz.

 On a sunny day, back in 1623, Dutch researcher Jan Carstensz saw a glacier on the banks of hot New Guinea from afar. Returning to Europe, he announced his discovery, for which he was ridiculed.

Almost 400 years have passed since then, and now any traveler can personally verify that Jan Carstensz was not at all an inventor and the glacier in the tropics was not a figment of his imagination or hallucination caused by excessive consumption of rum.

 The glacier really exists and is situated near the highest mountain of Australia and Oceania, named in honor of its pioneer Pyramid Carstensz. The second name of this mountain - Jaya, which translated from Indonesian means Victory.

The world has become more accessible, now to get to the other end of geography is not necessarily to go sailing on a sailing boat for months and years.  You can get on a plane, sit in a chair, and you're in a different country, a different culture, a different world. And although "McDonald's" and "Starbucks" climbed almost everywhere, the world is still beautiful and diverse.

A couple of flights and we get from -15 to + 35°, from snow - covered and cold Moscow - in green and stuffy Jayapura, from native Russia in far New Guinea.

In some places of this island are some persons eat people, somewhere in the depths of the jungle tribes still living as primitive people. And somewhere instead of guys with bows and spears, you can meet guys with machine guns who are fighting for independence from Indonesia.

But we don't need the jungle, we need the mountains, our goal is Jaya, our goal is Victory.

Some days we have been acclimatizing, visiting a tribe of Papuans, walking to the lake at 3200, where for more productive acclimatization, having a swim. On the fifth day not to meet guerrillas, we fly by helicopter to base camp on 4200. After lunch I spend training with the team on the ropes.

In the morning of the 6th day we put on harnesses, hang carabiners and other climbing rattles and begin to climb up. The rock wall is full of flow streams, and sometimes become to the river. The mountain does not get bored, only tired of jumaring - and you're walking on steel cables over the abyss, breathed and op, you need to jump somewhere. In short, climb the Carstensz is a fun, albeit wet))). The breaks in the clouds sometimes, the views are spectacular.

Five and a half hours of work on wet ropes and rocks and we stand on top. For me, this is the sixth summit of the project "7 summits". The descent reminded me more of a canyoning than mountaineering. In the camp we were waited by hot tea and the watermelon beautifully cut out in the form of a flower. We wondered in honor of what we get watermelon flower, in honor of the ascent or in honor of March 8th. Agreed that the watermelon is dedicated for the only girl in our team - Irina. Together we go on not the first climb, but first time on March 8)).

That's how climbers celebrate international women's day!

P. S. the Glacier we saw and witnessed the opening of Jan Carstensz))))).

Do travel, love life and appreciate the beauty of this world! V. Kotlyar.

Irina Zisman after the return sent us pictures in high resolution, we have done a separate gallery. See here ( 47 photos)

Vladimir Kotlyar, a guide of the 7 Summits Club:  adventures of Russians in Papua begin!!!! We got to Jayapura after long and painful seats in planes and airports. The Papua met by the heat and the greenery. Such a contrast after the Russian frosty winter….

 This time we have made a special program – it starts immediately in the Papuans-cannibals, so that participants better acclimatize and get used to the world of Papuans.

Passed this stage, they will be admitted to the subsequent ascent to the highest point of Australia and Oceania - Pyramid Carstensz.

 Members of the expedition:

 Irina Zisman (great Amazon, recently returned from South America and Antarctica with Vinson and Aconcagua in his belt);

Irina - beauty Ambassador at the Seven Summits

 George Sadetsky (who has already climbed Everest and Vinson);

 Mikhail Kornev (just few days as ascended of Orizaba with Sergei Larin).

The team of Japanese mountaineers, who climbed to the highest summit of Antarctica mount Vinson under the leadership of Alexander Abramov, included one unusual person.  Unusual appearance it could cause a question, whether everything is in order with her head.  Don't worry, it's all only a game! But the game is not amateur, but very professional.  Ayako Imoto is a real star of Japanese television. Moreover, the star is in comedy plan, professionally trained and with experience as a comedian on television for more than 10 years.

In 2007, she started working with a team called Sekai no hate made itteq, which means I couldn't figure out exactly. But judging by the videos, their range of interests is quite wide. With regard to Imoto, she was given the image of a naive girl in a popular apparel: mix school uniforms and sailor. And most importantly, distinctive feature – a strange and  hard painted eyebrows. Over time, another feature of her specialization was determined. The plot of the program was based on adventures in different natural places, contact with animals, people of different cultures. Humor was side by side with serious stories.

In 2009, the television team together with Ayako made a successful expedition to Africa with the ascent of Kilimanjaro. After that, there were born "Napoleonic plans" - and why not "seven summits"? In 2011, with great difficulty they climbed Mount Aconcagua and began to prepare for Everest. In the fall of 2013, they successfully climbed to Manaslu. And the next spring the team went to Everest, from the South, of course. It is known that that year almost everything, except one Chinese woman, stopped ascension after the tragedy which carried away lives of the whole group of Sherpas. Imoto also wanted to continue the assault on the summit, but the leadership decided to bring this issue to the vote of the viewers. And the majority turned to the expedition to stop. Apparently, the second attempt will be soon. After Everest, Ayako went to the other two key peaks of the project: Denali and Vinson. Will she end the project with Elbrus? In any case, Welcome to Russia!

And  a small trailer turned out from this season expedition:

You already know that our entire group at full strength climbed to the top of Carstensz. But the adventure is not over.

Taking off from Carstensz, the group split up. The male part went to the meeting with the scary Komodo dragons. And the female part under the leadership of President Alex flew into the heart of the island to look at the scary on the outside but good inside of the Papuans.

Now we compete who have cooler adventures.

We (women's team) have participated in hostilities, witnessed the brutal murder of a pig (which women of the Dani tribe carefully nurtured breast), ate meat from the pit and went through a huge cave with bats before the start of the underground river. A group of men, meanwhile, backs of dragons and bathed in ice sources.

The total score is 1:1

Message from Alexander Abramov:

Hello! This is Abramov Alexander, Irian Jaya, Papua, Pyramid Carstensz. Today our team made the ascent on the Pyramid of Carstensz. All seven people. Including among us:

- the first Belarusian to reach the Pyramid Carstensz – Vadim Frolov;

- the first Deputy of the State Duma Oleg Savchenko;

- the first Ukrainian woman who is going to finish the "seven summits" - Tatiana Jalovchak;

- the first inhabitant of Kovrov – Alexey Balakin;

-  first Ukrainian climber who climbed all "seven summits" without Carstensz, who is now also finished with the Pyramid Carstensz, but already being a citizen of Russia - Igor Pokhvalin;

- well, actually, Abramov Alexander, for the fifth time;

- Lyudmila Korobeshko, for the third time ...

In General, each of us was first in something. ... everything is fine. Of course, with the weather we were lucky. The weather is fair, we flew by helicopter. Until we saw no guerrillas, which are said to be located across two valleys from us.

I mean, we're all fine. The first part went down after 12 hours on climb, the second -after 13. On the top we went up seven and a half hours.

That is, everything was fine, "mountain of the mists" at the end on the descent fresh us with some rain.

Well, OK, now we sit waiting for our departure home.

We want to go to .... in Wamena. And spend an unforgettable party in Bali.

Here we have a cool program. We are all very pleased, we have a gorgeous camp. Tents are not wet at all. This is unique to this country, because here constantly pour rains. Well, bye!
