Greetings from Africa! From the Machame camp at 3000m on the slopes of Kilimanjaro from the Space Group!  Yesterday we started our ascent of Kilimanjaro. During the first day, we reached the Machame camp at an altitude of 3000. On the way, we got soaked through under a tropical downpour. But by sunset, the downpour had stopped. So we had a chance to admire both the sunset and the stars. Today we go further, at 3900, to the Shira camp.

Greetings from Mexico from the Quetzal group! Yesterday we went up to the camp at 4,500 m from the South. The journey took a little over two hours, it was not boring and very informative to look at the Mexican countryside. March is the end of the Orizaba season, besides us there are two other small groups in the camp, there is enough space for everyone. Yesterday afternoon we walked to the refuge, such a good-quality building with a small kitchen and bunks for 25 people. The mountain is very close, at hand and does not cause any fears from the outside, nevertheless, with whom we communicated, they say that it was not easy. We take note of this, tune in and believe in our success. Today, at midnight local time, we go out to storm. Wish us good luck!

Valery Myasoedov, a guide of the 7 Summits Club, reports from Mexico:

Greetings from Mexico from the Quetzal group! Yesterday we had the third day of the program, climbing La Malinche, 4462 m. Why are we Quetzal? This is in honor of a small unusual bird that is found only in Central American countries and is a symbol in many of them. In Guatemala, for example, the country's currency is called the quetzal. And we also call it the firebird.

We are leaving our cozy hacienda today, we spent two nights here. The hacienda is an estate with many buildings, in the architectural style of colonial times, in which both owners and employees lived.

And the main event of yesterday - we climbed La Malinche. We gained almost 1400 m in 4.5 hours. Everyone successfully coped, admired the beautiful views, and tired, but satisfied with the stage we had passed, returned to our hacienda. At dinner, the appetite was excellent.

Greetings from Mexico! A new team of the 7 Summits Club has arrived in Mexico City on the Seven Volcanoes program and go to Orizaba (5636 m), the highest volcano in North America. First day: arrival of the group and acquaintance with Mexico City, the largest city in Central America. And today, on the second day, we visited the famous pyramids of Teotihuacan. They really look mysterious and keep a lot of secrets. But our guide Natalia gave exhaustive explanations to all our questions. Undoubtedly, one of the wonders of the world and the mysteries of mankind.

After the tour, we had a delicious lunch at the national cuisine restaurant. We tasted pulque, a local drink made from fermented agave juice, and everyone was satisfied. After lunch, we moved to the town of Huamantla, closer to La Malinche Park, where tomorrow we are going to acclimatize to the peak of the same name with a height of 4,500 m. Yes... we are housed in an ancient hacienda, an estate from colonial times, which I will tell you about tomorrow. And about the name of the band, which we have almost decided on.

NP1 department.

Today we had a day of practical training on natural terrain. The main goal was to prepare for the terrain that we will have on the upcoming route. Since our route will be technically simple, but there will be a lot of snow, we held snow classes.  We learned how to trail snow, walk with an ice axe, performed "self-arrest" in the snow, on a snowy slope in several stages. We spun through the back, spun through the side, walked in ropes.

We got to know a little more about the structure of crampons and learned how to put them on. After that, we returned home, where there was a lecture section.

We got acquainted with the itinerary documentation, with the itinerary, told how it goes in the alpine camps, who is the graduate, who is responsible for safety, how the itinerary is filled out. And in the description of the route, we studied our route, drew the attention of the climbers to important points. We chose tactics and discussed it, selected equipment for tomorrow's route, told how to navigate the route, what, again, to pay attention to.

Guides: Ratmir Mukhametzyanov, Alexey Lonchinsky.

 Department of NP2

We climbed to the summit of Yugspor along route 1B "Damsky" on the left side of the South buttress.  There was a lot of snow on the route, as always in winter Khibiny, but visibility was excellent. On the descent, the aurora borealis was observed during the day in the form of a rainbow column over the neighboring peak.

Guide: Andrey Selivanov.

The Transglobal Car Expedition continues despite the fact that one of its leaders, Alexander Abramov, had to leave it for a while due to the lawlessness of the Canadian authorities.

 From the Diary:

February 28-29, 2024

We were prepared for big challenges on the ice, but by good planning from our ice team and great images and data from Siku.org, we were able to navigate to relatively good flat ice with only a handful of difficult pressure ridges.

On the Day 50 we've covered just over 200km incredibly fast. We had to cross a couple of large pressure ridges including with the fording ladders - a really technical challenge.

However, we made it to Resolute Bay in early afternoon on February 29. We will spend a couple of days here in the lodge doing small repairs then head north. This will be the last community we will see for about two months until we cross over the North Pole and get to the south end of Greenland. There were great days with some very smooth ice and only one small mechanical issue. The team stopped northwest of King William Island near the coordinates where the Franklin Expedition ships were beset by ice for two winters and eventually abandoned in 1848. We observed a moment of silence for the lost 129 men and flew the Explorers Club flag.

Yesterday, the mountaineering school of the 7 Summits Club in Khibiny started!  Both branches of the participants (beginners and continuing ones) gathered in the city of Kirovsk.

The first department:

"We had a lecture on equipment, a lecture on knots, a practical lesson. They told the participants about the equipment hanging on the system, which points and how much they hold, how to carry it all, how to shorten ropes. But not all of them passed, they did not overload people with information.

Then there was a practical lesson on the interaction of ropes. We walked between the trees in ropes. We learned to get attached first, middle, last, shorten the rope, belay each other, get each other, get up on self-belay and now we are all going to go together to watch the northern lights.

Tomorrow there will be a practical lesson on the terrain all day, we will continue to learn how to set points and assemble stations and re-work out interaction with new introductory ones."

Guides: Ratmir Mukhametzyanov and Alexey Lonchinsky.

 The second department:

"The NP-2 group of the Seven Summits Mountaineerimng School of Khibiny held the first day of training sessions on the Urban Gap rock massif. After the lecture on "Modern climbing equipment and its proper use", the participants of the Mountaineering School practiced the techniques of climbing snow-covered rocks in crampons, climbing and descending with a "dulfer" along vertical fixed ropes. We tried real drytulling on icy rocks. The weather in the Khibiny is now like in winter Scotland, snowy and humid."

Guide: Andrey Selivanov.
