7 Volcanoes Project

The team of the 7 Summits Club of the project "7 volcanoes in 77 days" is now in Istanbul. On a transfer. We are flying straight to the 5th mountain of the project: Giluwe volcano in Papua New Guinea.

Only 24 days have passed since the beginning of the project (out of 77), and we have already climbed 4 peaks and are flying to the 5th.

The group "14 friends of Julio" with the guide Alexander Dorojukov and the group "7 volcanoes in 77 days", consisting of Alexander Abramov and videographer Ilya Gladkikh, have completed their Mexican program. Together they celebrated the victory, the successful ascent of Orizaba. The participants received well-deserved awards, honorary badges and certificates. Then again, all together they descended to the capital of the country, Mexico City, and are flying home.

At 7:45 am local time, our team gathered at the top of the highest volcano in North America. The 7 Summits Club group "14 Friends of Julio" climbed under the guidance of our guide Alexander Dorojukov. At the same time, the group of the project "7 volcanoes in 77 days" - Alexander Abramov and Ilya Gladkikh - reached the summit. We hope to get more information after the descent to the hotel. For Alexander Abramov, this is the fourth summit of the project "7 volcanoes in 77 days" (Elbrus, Damavand, Kilimanjaro) in 20 days. Ahead is Giluwe, on the Australian continent.

The 7 Summits Club group "Chameleons" (guide Evgeny Fedyunin) and Alexander Abramov's group made a successful joint ascent on the summit of Kilimanjaro. Ten participants and guides reached the highest point of the Uhuru Peak massif at 10 a.m. local time.

For Alexander Abramov, this is the third mountain of the "7 Volcanoes in 77 Days" project. The first was Elbrus on October 25. Three volcanoes in 13 days it is a good pace!

Kilimanjaro. Our team of the project "7 volcanoes in 77 days" climbed to the Horombo camp 3800 m. The weather is very kind for us so far. There is no rain. There is no wind.

The camp is very comfortable. We live in small houses on beds. The food is very tasty. The team is in a great mood. Today we will watch a film about Everest, which Ilya Gladkikh shot in the spring during our spring expedition.

Today our team does nothing but dance and sing. I love this atmosphere on Kilimanjaro. Thanks to our local team, who make our ascent a holiday.

Today we climbed Damavand - 5609m!!! On October 31 at 12:00 Iranian time, Ilya Gladkikh and I climbed the highest volcano in Asia. This is the second mountain from the "7 Volcanoes in 77 Days" project. The weather was not good at all, the climb was out of season. The wind was up to 60 km per hour. The temperature at the summit was minus 25. And there was already snow. I had three warm pants on. I have never put on so many! It was really hard to walk. But we managed.

Now we are urgently heading to Kilimanjaro!

Two volcanoes in 8 days - let's move on!

Yesterday at 9 am, as part of the "7 Volcanoes in 77 Days" project, Alexander Abramov and Ilya Gladkikh ascended the first peak of the project - Elbrus. The ascent took place in unstable autumn weather conditions. Thus, the 7/77 project has begun.

The next peak is the Damavand volcano 5609 in Iran. We plan to climb it on October 31.

This morning, the President of the 7 Summits Club, Alexander Abramov, climbed to the top of Europe's highest volcano, Elbrus. We are turning on the counter. The "7 Volcanoes in 77 Days" project has started. Today was day number 1.  Alexander Abramov plans to climb the highest volcanoes on all continents in less than 100 days. This will be "Project 99". On October 1, Alexander sets off with a group to climb the Giluwe volcano (Australian continent). And he intends to finish on the Antarctic mountain Mount Sidley in early January 2025.

The project will be called "Seven Volcanoes in Seven Months." Alex Abramov will lead two Super Girls groups to Damavand and Elbrus in August. According to the plan, the ascent of Damavand should take place on August 13. From that day, the countdown for the record will begin. It is considered "from summit to summit." In October, Giluwe is planned, in November, Orizaba and Kilimanjaro. In December, an expedition to the Antarctic volcano Sidley. And in February, Alexander should complete the project by climbing Ojos del Salado. To break the speed record (183 days, 20 hours and 54 minutes), he needs to climb the Chilean volcano before February 12. Which is not entirely easy, if our President intends to finish the Antarctic season only on January 22. That was in his plans.

 Andrey Kravchenko spent some time counting between his projects "Seven Summits" and "Seven Volcanoes". And the score was 4:4. But then the volcanoes made a winning leap. In any case, Andrey turned out to be the winner. After yesterday's ascent of Mount Giluwe, the highest volcano on the Australian continent, as part of the Sun Shine 7 Summits Club group, the Seven Volcanoes program is completed! Andrey will be ranked 46th in the World and 14th in Russia in the list of heroes. We are the leaders! More than 30% are our compatriots. And we plan to increase this percentage. Two groups have already been formed for the upcoming season by the 7 Summits Club!

 Well, we wish Andrey to even the score!  We know that in his plans there are three missing Summits Carstensz, Everest and Denali. If there are no subjective (political) problems, we are sure that he will cope.

 Sergey Vasiliev climbed the summit of the highest volcano in South America, Ojos del Salado, and thus completed the Seven Volcanoes program. The ascent took place with the help of a local guide and took place at an accelerated pace, after acclimatization in time on a successful expedition to Sidley in Antarctica. And thus, another our compatriot, a representative of the 7 Summits Club, was added to the company of climbers to all the highest volcanoes of all continents.

The climbing season in Chile for Ojos del Salado 2023 has ended.  This is the highest volcano in South America with a height of 6893 meters, which is part of the project "Seven Volcanoes", ascents of the 7 highest volcanoes of each continent.  Thanks to this project, the mountain is popular and this year about 50 people from Russia rushed to it.

I want to sum up the results of the season of the 7 Summits Club.  In total, 32 participants entrusted their fate to us, of which 30 people reached the top of Ojos del Salado. These are 4 groups with 6 guides.  I want to clarify, they have reached the real top of the mountain. The highest point: 6893m.

Why I am writing about this: recently there has been a fashion not to reach the top of volcanic mountains and, having reached the lowest point of the crater, announce that the group has reached the summit. Like, geographers consider the entire edge of the crater to be the top. This is what has been practiced by many on Ojos del Salado in recent years. After reaching the edge of the crater, which is 150m below the summit, the guides tell the clients that they have climbed  the summit. And the real summit is still the hardest and most dangerous 2 hours of work.

I want to state responsibly: mountain climbers have always called the highest point the summit of the mountain, and before reaching the highest point, you can not say that you have climbed to the summit. This is a deception of yourself and others. I myself climbed the summit of Ojos del Salado only in my 3rd expedition to this mountain. In total, I have more than 10 ascents to Ojos and each ascent is a very tough struggle with myself and nature. And most importantly, with the desire, having reached the edge of the crater and to turn down.

The mountain is deceptively simple due to the fact that the height of 5900 can be reached by car. A very treacherous mountain, on which two weeks of active acclimatization are required. The mistake of many teams and novice guides is underestimating the complexity of this mountain.

Every climber is free to interrupt his ascent at any height.  You can even talk about "conquering" the mountain without reaching the highest point. But from the point of view of the implementation of the project "Seven Volcanoes", there can be no two opinions. Did not reach the highest point – "no credit"! So all those who have not climbed to the real summit of Ojos del Salado this year, we invite you to finish what you started next year.  What do you think? Salom az Tehran!

On June 15, at 11.30, “Teheran-19” team stood at the top of Demavand. We got it  in exactly 7 hours, as planned. Weather us favored,  this was the best morning over the past 3-4 days. In the upper third, we froze a little from the strong wind, but got the stored down jackets, and the problem was solved. Cloud whirl near the top turned out to be emissions of sulfur dioxide, it makes an impression! ... Well, that West wind will carry the greater part of the accumulations to the side…

We chose the option to go down by  snowy slopes, using stashed crampons. It's faster and safer!

On the same day we ran to the bottom, to the mosque, and from there - to Polur at 2200 m. It was hard, but we really wanted to be down.

We spent a night in Polur, and in the morning we received traditional congratulations and certificates from the Federation of mountaineering of Iran.
