Dear friends!

 The 7 Summits Club announces for the summer of 2017 a new festival dedicated to the program of climbing the highest peaks of all continents - "Seven Summits".

Dates of the festival: June 24th to July 2th, 2017

Location – Polyana (Glade) Azau in Terskol village, the slopes and the summits of Mount Elbrus.

The festival will consist of two parts.

The Official Part:  29th June – 2th July

 Meeting of climbers on the "Seven Summits", the presentation of medals and diplomas, awarding ceremony.

The Informal Part: 24th June – 29th June

Mass ascent on Elbrus, setting a Guinness record.

 We want to make the main event of the festival a gala evening with the presentation of medals "All Seven Summiter" and the relevant certificates. All Russian SevenSummiters will be invited, as well as special guests, the climbers on the "Seven Summits" from the various countries of the world.

  But no less important, we believe…

A mass ascent on The Mount of Elbrus

In order to establish the Guinness record for the number "seven summits climbers" gathered together on the same mountain.

 Also in the festival program scheduled: speed races (competitions) on Elbrus, presentations and guest speaking, exhibition of photographs, best films and movies awarding, cultural program ...

And a lot of communication with fans to collect the summits in an informal atmosphere.

To participate in the festival "Seven Summits", except for Russian climbers  we will invite to the first Seven Summits climbers from each country, first  of the project, as well as other authors of unique achievements. We expect coming many interesting guests, new acquaintances, “a sea of communication”!

 In the year of the Fire Rooster, we recommend going to the mountains! These birds always like to climb to the highest point, that is, on every continent on the Seven Summits! Roosters are punctual, they are serious about their duties, they act as  guides for their wards. They get up early, as the real climbers, they're out of their way to be heard, whatever the circumstances.

Take from them the best!

By decision of the UN General Assembly on December 11^th  every year is celebrated as the International Mountain Day, to draw attention to mountain regions in the world, to their potential and challenges on the path to sustainable development.

  The 7 Summits Club congratulates all fans of the mountains, all the inhabitants of mountainous areas, all those who, one way or another, connected with the mountains!

2016 Theme — "Mountain Cultures: Celebrating diversity and strengthening identity"

Covering around 22 percent of the earth’s land surface, mountains play a critical role in moving the world towards sustainable economic growth. They not only provide sustenance and wellbeing to 915 million mountain people around the world, representing 13 percent of global population, but mountains also indirectly benefit billions more living downstream.

This year, the celebration of this Day aims to highlight Mountain Cultures. Mountains host communities with ancient cultures and traditions, and are places of religious worship, pilgrimage and rituals all over the world. The concept of traditional heritage, culture and spirituality is intrinsically linked with peoples’ livelihoods in the mountains, where it is often traditional lifestyles that determine the way people make a living and subsist.

Mountains are also the sources of springs and rivers and have been revered as the home of deities throughout history. In times of drought, the Kikuyu people faced Mount Kenya and asked the God Ngai for rain. The Inca people constructed their temples on the highest peaks over 6 000 metres (m) in the Andes. In China, villages traditionally dedicated a temple to the local mountain deity responsible for clouds and rain.

A large proportion of the world's minority populations live in mountain areas. While most of these consist of small numbers of people, some large groups exist, such as the Quechua in the Andes, the Amhara people in Ethiopia, and the Tibetans and Yi in China. Isolation, created by the rugged topographic barriers, has helped create and maintain many diverse cultures relatively intact. Unfortunately, the stability of mountain populations, each with different values and belief systems, is threatened by migration, urbanization and conflict. 

Mountain peoples have long held vital roles in the management of their ecosystems. Over the centuries, they have developed remarkable land-use systems, climate change adaptation approaches, traditional diets and mountain products that are unique and rich in globally significant biodiversity.

Often grounded in a deep connection with the land, mountain communities’ worldviews guide them in their agricultural activities and care of the environment and natural resources. In the Andes, for example, mother nature Pachamama, worshipped by the indigenous peoples, presides over planting and harvesting, embodies mountains and is believed to cause earthquakes. Rituals to honour Pachamama reinforce the relations between human communities and their natural environments, bringing together people from different clans and villages at various points of the agricultural cycle.

Furthermore, mountains and mountain-protected areas are places of spiritual solace, inspiration, recreation and relaxation. From skiing and climbing to viewing mountain gorillas in Rwanda and visiting the rock churches in Ethiopia, mountains offer an array of possibilities to all kinds of tourists. According to United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), 376 of the world’s 669 Biosphere Reserves, or 56 percent, contain mountain ecosystems.  

The impacts of tourism on culture and identity in the mountains can bring both possibilities and challenges. Community-based mountain tourism can ensure a more equitable distribution of income, help maintain local cultures and knowledge, reduce out-migration and provide incentives for the protection of mountain ecosystems, their goods and services.

While Mountain Culture is the suggested theme for 2016, countries, communities and organizations are welcome to celebrate International Mountain Day through the choice of a different theme that might be more relevant to them.

 Due to the expansion and opening of the new perspective directions, the office of the 7 Summits Club changes dislocation and moves closer to the center.

Team of Andrey Berezin by sunny, but windy weather, successfully reached the summit of Mount Elbrus. That these are autumn climbing. Congratulations to the brave participants and  valiant guides! It was the ending of a large climbing season on Mount Elbrus.

Group of Andrey Berezin named "Seven climbers and a Girl" made a successful ascent to the highest peak of Russia Mount Elbrus. Everything went well, they were lucky with the weather too. Photos turned out great. Our congratulations!

It is Avtomonov Sergei. Today I and a group from China went up to the Western peak of Elbrus. The ascent took place in ideal weather conditions. Great, very warm, excellent visibility. We have made more than one hundred photographs. Our friends enjoyed it, all members of the group are satisfied, all reached the summit.

Now we all down to the hotel and rest, getting ready to leave ... .. That is all!

Andrey Berezin: I and  Kostya, we climbed Mount Elbrus, Western Peak. Kostya – Ironman, he need not moch time for acclimatization. The weather was nasty … Also some fumaroles opened, we inhale vapors of sulfur, all the time we wanted to sleep. At the top the wind was about 60 kilometers per hour. Therefore, the photo - just sitting!

 The second member of the group (climber from the USA) continued get acclimation according to the program. He must climb the summit, with Andrey a few days later ...

Hello, everyone! It says Vladimir Kotlyar with my closing the summer season group, Climb Elbrus program.  The Group named SHKID Republic in full successfully climbed Mount Elbrus. Some participants even climbed two peaks. And without the help of snowcat – it is Anna and Edgar. Thanks to them, and I also got to climb the two peaks. What I am very happy. And yet we dragged a watermelon on both summits and lowered it in Terskol. And today we will eat it together, as this watermelon charged with energy by as much as two peaks of Mount Elbrus

This is our finish of season. Cool!  In general, everything was great....

Hello! Here  Vladimir Kotlyar and the group "Respublika SHKID". Yesterday we all went together to the Pastukhov Rocks. At night, two people: an American Tom Biksler and our Ecuadorian friend guide Edgar Parra made the ascent to the Western Peak of Mount Elbrus.  This was possible because they come to us already acclimatized, after a few climbs in Peru. Today we have a day of rest, we rest, roast barbecue, enjoy life ...

Our partner in Ecuador, the famous local guide Edgar Parra, who is also founder and director of his own company, brought to office a very interesting person. This is his client, his client from the United States, from California. His name is Tom Biсksler. 42-year-old American is living with a diagnosis of diabetes type 2 and besides suffered a serious operation for Crohn's disease.

Formally, he is twice the invalid. He is not just a living, he had come to climb Mount Elbrus. The highest peak of Europe should be a third of his planned collection "Seven summis". Tom is going to become the first diabetic to complete this program. While in his collection there are Kilimanjaro - 2012, and Aconcagua - 2013. Trying to climb Mount McKinley in 2015, ended in failure due to prolonged bad weather:

In Moscow

Hello, everyone! It is  Vladimir Kotlyar, climbing Elbrus program. Today we climbed to the top of the Eastern Elbrus, with the couple of Ignatievs. The weather was great, everything was great. There was a light frost. We did not took off our warm down jackets until  turned back down from the summit. But on the whole it was a clear sunny day, though frosty. In general, it was fun and great. Finally I went to the East summit, only the second time this season.

All, Adios! Today we will have an awarding certificates ceremony and a festive dinner.

 Hello, everyone! Here Vladimir Kotlyar, climbing Elbrus.  I am here with a couple of Ignatievs. We made two acclimatization outings:  on the Pastukhov Rocks and up to an altitude of five thousand. Now we are down to Terskol, to rest and wait for a weather window. Here we are sitting, waiting, looking up at the sky, we read tea leaves. Tomorrow we will climb up, I guess. That is all.  Bye!

Hello! It is Andrey Berezin, a guide of the Seven Summits Club, reports from Elbrus. Yesterday, our group got to the shelter Leaprus. We immediately went to the snow-classes, worked self-arresting,  using an ice ax. Then we went up a steep slope, traverse slopes - practiced working with a rope. Today we went to the Pastukhov Rocks.
